Yesterday was Founder’s Day at our church. We were celebrating the legacy of our beloved Bishop Otis Lockett, Sr. He has done a great work for God and his work still continues. At my church, we are opening a legacy room that shows the history of the church and the works. Outside the legacy room shows a quote from the Bishop:
“Success is knowing God, what He desires for your life and sowing seeds to benefit others.” Bishop Otis Lockett
I sat and thought about this quote and decided to break it down to the best of my knowledge. I feel that it means that you should know your purpose in life and benefit others along the way.
What is your passion or purpose?
Many people go through life and they have no sense of passion or purpose. They don’t know the value of their life, so they waste time. This is because they don’t know their purpose. If their passion or purpose is recognized, their life has a new meaning. Finding their purpose or passion provides focus, keeps them motivated, and it provides an understanding of their potential.
How do you find your purpose?
You should decide “exactly” what you want in life and what you refuse to live without. You should ask yourself a few questions:
- What do I love doing so much that I would do for free?
- What does my dream life look like?
- What would I do if I knew it wouldn’t fail?
There’s more to that. If you still need help, this is where the power of mentors comes into play. You can also read a book on purpose. Also, you can find someone who has discovered their passion and ask them how they found it and how it has changed their life.
You should help others
Like my Bishop said in the above quote, you should sow seeds to benefit others. This journey to success is not all about you. Your purpose or your destiny is connected to others. Other people are depending on you to find your purpose so that they can succeed in life as well. When I first heard this, I realized the seriousness of finding purpose. I realized that I was being so selfish while living my life. Of course with helping others, you will be rewarded as well. That’s when God’s law of sowing and reaping comes into play. So focus on helping others and you will surely be rewarded.
Success is a word that is thrown around a lot. Some people get confused on what is real success. Finding your purpose or passion is the key to having success in life. Also helping others. Stay focused and let’s put the shovel in the ground and start digging.
