I have to confess, I have been guilty of doing some of the bad things. But anyway, it takes time, education and testing to figure out what works. I am gaining great success with these social media marketing tips.

The following tactics that I have seen have pissed me off. I have been guilty of some of these!

Spam people’s inboxes on Facebook or Twitter

I get a few random messages from people asking me to check out their offer or their business. This is annoying and I find it very rare that people actually check out your offer.

Spam your wall or newsfeed with your offer

This can give off the wrong signals. It is spammy. It can also show that you are money hungry and you have nothing to do but post things about your business.

Go to profiles or comments asking people to join your business

I get these comments and messages every day. I get messages like:

“Are you interested in earning $600 a month online?”

“Do you want to join XYZ company?”

“Do you keep your business options open?”

“My company is better, come join us.”

You may get some responses, but this doesn’t attract the right people into your business. This also makes you look desperate.

Why shouldn’t I do the social media marketing tactics above?

I’m going to keep it simple.

Use the 80/20 rule

This means that 80%-90% of the time, you should be providing value on your social media posts. 10%-20% of the time you can post offers of your business.

People want to do business with someone who is honest. They want to feel like they are doing business with an actual human being and not a counterfeit.

Provide value

You should post quotes, share blog posts and informational videos. This gives something that people look forward too.
