This morning I was on a great conference call where authentic leadership was discussed. The call was hosted by, Adrian Hines, a colleague of mine. He gave some leadership principles from a biblical perspective. He explained the leadership qualities and stages of Jesus and broke it down to 14 Progressive Stages of Authentic Leadership. Check out these leadership principles below:
14 Progressive Stages of Authentic Leadership
The pre-follower stage of authentic leadership
1. Must be tested before you can lead people.
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” Matthew 4:1
2. Must be secure in your identity before you can lead people.
“Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God…”
“…and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down…” Matthew 4:3,6
3. Must be willing to stand by yourself before you can lead people.
“Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God” Mark 1:14
4. Must be willing to share the vision constantly before you can lead people.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15
An authentic leader has core followers
5. Selects his core followers.
Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” Mark 1:17
6. Demonstrates what needs to be done to his core followers.
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.” Matthew 4:23
7. Prays for his core followers.
“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer.” Luke 6:12
An authentic leader develops his core leaders
8. Empowers his core leaders.
“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.” Matthew 10:1
9. Works closely with his core leaders.
“Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1
10. Gives opportunity for participating in fulfilling the vision to his core leaders.
“But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” Matthew 14:16″
11. Serves his core leaders.
“After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.” John 13:5
An authentic leader focuses on the ultimate vision
12. Dies to self constantly to bring about the ultimate vision.
“He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39
13. Completes his part of the ultimate vision.
“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” John 19:30
14. Restores his followers gently and with love so they can see their part in the ultimate vision.
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” John 21:15
Passes the torch to carry on the ultimate vision.
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” Mark 16:15
